About us

Mellis is a small village in north Suffolk, UK. It is close to Eye and Diss and boasts having one of the largest commons in East Anglia. Most of the houses are spread around the outside of the common on either side of the railway line that bisects the community.

However, within this small village you will find a great number of people with a vast range of skills and talents.

Mellis Arts came about early in 2012 through the efforts of Sally and Phil and a small group of like-minded people encouraging and supporting them.

By good fortune, the local pub - The Railway Tavern - offered their back room, the ex sports bar, to the art club as a permanent gallery. This room, which is just off the courtyard through the back of the tavern, is open whenever the tavern is open and now contains a lively mix of arts and crafts work by the members.

All work displayed can be purchased and many of the members accept commissions.

In the gallery you will find original paintings in all mediums, top quality prints, artistry in wool, imaginative quilting, supurb metalwork, stunning stained glass panels, unique ceramics and hand-made musical instruments.

Just across the road, opposite the tavern, you will see an 18 feet long, metal based, oak slatted, inscribed bench. A unique creation by Dave Bradley (metal) and Laurence Hall (wood).
